Designed for personal home networks and small offices, Western Digital has launched ShareSpace, a network storage system that is available in capacities of 2TB and 4TB. Measuring 7.73 x 7.84 x 6.30 inches (H x L x W), ShareSpace is a 4-bay system that is small enough to work in home environments where family members can share digital media — including images, movies and music — currently stored on multiple computers.
Licenses for three computers are included with ShareSpace, as is software for remote access via Western Digital’s MioNet service. Additionally, the unit is equipped with Ethernet and USB 2.0 ports for flexible connectivity and features Green Power for 33% less power consumption.
The 4TB model has an MSRP of $999.99 and is shipped in RAID 5 mode; the 2TB costs about $699.99 and is shipped in Spanning Mode but both offer multiple RAID configurations. Stay tuned for a hands-on preview of this cool new home networking system.
